Transferring Positions

If you had positions that you transferred from one brokerage account to another please select the following scenario that best suits you for instruction.

Note: This is a transfer of open positions or securities, NOT CASH.

1) User closes an account, and transfers all positions into a new account.

A. Create one new file within TradeLog. (Creating a new file)

B. Import the transaction history from the first account that is closing up to the date of the transfer.

C. Change the import filter to the new account by clicking Options>Import Filter. (Selecting an Import Filter)

Note: If the new account is with the same broker, change the account number in the BrokerConnect import box. If using CSV file import, simply download data from the new account.

D. Continue importing through January 31st of the following year. If MTM, import through December 31st.

2) User closes an account, and transfers all positions into an existing account, which contains positions.

A. Create two new files within TradeLog. (Creating a new file)

B. Import the transaction history from the first account that is closing into file 1.

C. Import the transaction history up to the date of the transfer for the second account into file 2.

D. Select all of the records in file 1 by clicking Edit>Select All Records.

E. Copy all of the records in file 1 by clicking Edit>Copy Selected Records.

F. Paste all the copied records into file 2 by clicking Edit>Paste Records within file 2.

Note: A warning will pop up about already importing these dates, just continue.

G. Continue importing in file 2 through January 31st of the following year. (File 1 can be deleted). If MTM, import through December 31st.

3) User transfers select positions from an account into a new or existing account, now maintaining both accounts.

A. Create two new files within TradeLog. (Creating a new file)

B. Import the transaction history from the first account into file 1, up to the date of transfer.

C. Import the transaction history from the second account into file 2, up to the date of transfer.

D. Identify the positions in file 1 that transfer. Right click and copy the records one at a time and paste them into file 2.

E. Once the positions are in file 2, delete them from file 1.

Note on Partial Transfers: You may have to edit a record instead of deleting it entirely. For example, if you bought 500 shares, and only transferred 250, then the original record must be edited to reduce the number of shares by 250 leaving a remaining 250 shares. In file 2, the number of transferred shares would need to show as 250.

F. Continue importing both accounts in the respective files through January 31st of the following year. If MTM, import through December 31st.
