Import from a CSV File

Vanguard Import of downloaded CSV file.

General Procedure:

  1. Go to the Vanguard web site and log in to your account.

  2. Click on My Portfolio, Accounts & Activity.

  3. Click on the Download transactions link at the upper right corner of the page.

  4. Select a From and To date range for your report.

Note: Please select a To date that is a few days past what you want to import to ensure you get all the trades by trade date for this date range, as the From and To date selection on this page is using settlement date, not actual trade date which is required by TradeLog.

  5. Under Choose account(s) deselect all accounts except the account you wish to download from.
Note: Please do NOT select more than one account.

  6. At the very bottom of the page click the Download spreadsheet link.

Note: If the csv file opens in your web browser, or opens in Microsoft Excel, rather than receiving a prompt to download and save, then there is likely a problem with your Windows file associations for csv files. For instructions on how to fix this click here

  7. Save the CSV file to your "c:\my documents\tradelog\import" directory.
Please do NOT open the csv file with Excel. Opening the csv file and then saving it will change the original formatting and render in unreadable by our TradeLog Vanguard import filter.

      8. Run TradeLog

  9. Click on the Vanguard Imp speed button. If there are no trades in your TradeLog data file an "IMPORTING RECORDS FOR THE FIRST TIME" dialog box will pop up - click YES.

  10. An  Import from Vanguard *.csv file dialog box will appear - click on the YES button.

  11. Select the appropriate CSV file and click on the Open button.

  12. Your trades will be imported and automatically matched.
