My broker report won't import - how do I send to you?

Before sending us your report, you should verify that you are:

  1. Using the latest version of TradeLog - see: Updating your TradeLog software.

  2. Using MS Internet Explorer as your browser when copying your trade history information from your online broker's web page. If you need to update your version or switch to Internet Explorer, please do so and then try your import again. If the import is still unsuccessful, please read on.
Copies of the last few imports from your broker can be found in your "my documents\tradelog\import" folder. These data files are plain text and are named with your broker name followed by a date such as: "Fidelity_20070427_20070611.txt"

To send us your online broker's trade history report:

  1.
  2. Enter your name, email, and phone number which are required fields.

  3. Select "Importing Problem" from the problem type drop down box.

  4. Provide some details about your import problem.

  5. Use the Browse button to find and attach your trade history file.

  6. Click the "Submit" button.

To save a trade history report displayed online in your web browser as a text (*.txt) file:

Programs that support text (*.txt) files such as Windows Notepad allow users to send us their broker trade history reports that contain trade data along with all necessary formatting but without all the HTML markup. This data is necessary in order for us to determine if a broker has changed the format of an online report and whether or not a software update should be released.

Step One: Perform a basic "copy and paste" function and save the report as a text file:
  1. In your web browser, display the trade history report that you wish to save.
  2. Select the trade data you are trying to import. Use Edit, Select All from the main menu, or select the report table with your mouse (depending on the method supported by your online broker).
  3. Copy the trade data to the Windows Clipboard. From the web browser main menu, click Edit, Copy or use the keyboard shortcut <Ctrl+C>.
  4. Now you will need to open a program that supports text files - we suggest that you use Windows Notepad. You can open Notepad by clicking on the Start menu. Then, select Programs > Accessories > Notepad.
  5. A new text file will be created when the program is loaded.
  6. From the main menu, select Edit, Paste. Your trade data will be pasted into the text file.
  7. Click on File, Save from the main menu. Give the text file an easily recognizable name and save it to your Desktop. We suggest that you save the file to your Desktop as it will be easy to attach the file to your support email from this location.

Step Two: Send us the text file using our Online Support Request.
